JESUS
Our belief in Jesus is absolutely central to who we are. Here's why, in nine truths from the Bible.
God loves the world, deeply.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
We have all rejected God's love. The Bible calls this sin.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..." Romans 3:23
Because of our rejection of God, we face the consequence: death.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23
We need someone to save us from death. God gives us his own son, Jesus Christ. Jesus took the punishment for our sin by dying on a cross. He came back to life three days later, defeating death itself.
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1 John 4:10
Anyone can be saved.
"[God] wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." 1 Timothy 2:4
Jesus is the only way we can be saved.
"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" John 14:6
And saving us is exactly what Jesus did when he died on the cross, and came back to life after three days.
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” 1 Peter 3:18
Being saved is huge, and requires us to surrender our lives to Jesus.
"And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again." 2 Corinthians 5:15
God leaves us with a choice: will you accept or reject Jesus' love?
Jesus says, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."
Revelation 3:20
